Do you offer customers a shared SSL certificate?

We do not offer a shared SSL certificate service to our customers. This is because there are a number of problems that typically occur with shared SSL certificate setups such as:

  • Extremely long URLs ( such as https://servername.webhostingcompanyname.tld/~yourusername/ )
  • Pop-up security warnings (because it is a shared SSL certificate, the security certificate will not match your domain name which will cause pop-up security warnings to occur)
  • Problems with PHP and Perl scripts (as your site is being accessed via a "different method", various PHP and Perl scripts may either need re-coding or will just refuse to work because of path changes and security issues relating to the scripts)
  • The costs of private SSL certificates are extremely low now (less than £50 per year) and help provide further reassurance to visitors (as the URL doesn't change and they don't get security/redirection warnings)
